This is the first is a series of articles exploring ways MCC Members are improving life in Maywood and beyond.
The Maywood Chamber of Commerce (MCC) is appreciative of the professionalism and dedication of Maywood’s first responders, especially during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, which was officially declared by the World Health Organization on March 11, 2020. The Chamber is especially pleased to acknowledge the leadership provided by Maywood Police Chief Valdimir Talley, who has not only served the Maywood community amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, but has also assumed an important new role as the 62nd president of WSCOP – West Suburban Chiefs of Police.
In 1960, police chiefs of Chicago’s near west suburbs formed an association called WSCOPA – West Suburban Chiefs of Police Association to promote greater communication and coordination among their departments. Over the decades, the association has promoted networking and training among its member departments, and legislation affecting communities that comprise the near west suburbs. Since last autumn, WSCOP has pursued its mission under the leadership of Maywood Police Chief, Valdimir Talley.
On September 9, 2020, during a small ceremony at Mariella’s Banquet Hall in Maywood, Chief Talley was installed along with other officials serving concurrent terms as officials of WSCOP. Joining Chief Talley are the following:
- WSCOP Vice President: Chief Timothy Larem, of Berkley Police Department
- WSCOP Secretary/Treasurer: Chief Timothy Contois, LaGrange Police Department
- WSCOP Sergeant at Arms: Chief Luis Gutierrez, Cicero Police Department
- WSCOP Parliamentarian: Chief Thomas Weitzel, Riverside Police Department.
Chief Talley understands the critical role of leaders in organizations. During his tenure as Maywood’s Police Chief, the Maywood Police Department has sought to improve the quality of life in Maywood by delivering professional and progressive law enforcement services in partnership with the community. Chief Talley has instilled and maintained a value system based upon mutual-respect, integrity, transparency and Constitutional equality.
The Maywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to have Chief Talley as a member and appreciates his leadership in Maywood and beyond.

Others in attendance were Mayor Edwenna Perkins, Pastor Marcus Tabb, Sr., of Maywood Neighbors United Methodist Church, and Cook County Circuit Court Judge Cheryl Ingram.
